How many times a day do we hear about self-care? It is everywhere.

Everyone wants to make sure we are relaxing and slowing down however in my practice what I often find is, self care is the first thing to go when it comes to the journey to pregnancy. I know for me, when my husband and I were trying and then suffering with infertility that was such a hard and trying time that sometimes all we did was eat, sleep and think about becoming pregnant and why it wasn’t happening. I would literally go weeks without doing anything for myself. I was so stressed, upset, angry and couldn’t understand why I wasn’t getting pregnant. The last thing I wanted to do was to stop and do something for myself. Even if it would be relaxing and was probably what I needed I didn’t prioritize that because I didn’t think I deserved to take care of myself. I was literally walking through life like a zombie.

What changed in me was when a friend of mine called me out. She said, Kela you look terrible. You need to start taking care of yourself and your potential new baby. In that moment a light bulb went off and I knew she was right. I did need to take care of myself. I deserved it. What I did to make sure my self care never fell by the wayside again was to make a nourishment list. On this list were 20 things that at a moments notice I could pull from that I knew would put me in the most relaxed state, things that I deserved to do and that felt great. I am going to share 5 of these with you today and I encourage you to make a list of your own, your body and your future baby will thank you.

My top 5 nourishment tips

1. Take a bath (with bubbles)
2. Get a massage
3. Go for a walk in nature
4. Sun-gaze (this will make vitamin D, which everyone needs especially if you are trying to get pregnant.
5. Deep breathe and meditate
